About Our Salon and Spa
For the Chnapko women, Bernard’s at Brighton is the phoenix rising from the ashes. Opening a new spa and salon was a dream that began during Bernie “Bernard” Chnapko’s battle with cancer. Upon his death, it became a venture that Elizabeth, his wife, and Maria, the youngest of three daughters, were inspired to bring to fruition. Today, Elizabeth, Annette, Michelle and Maria are dedicated to making Bernard’s at Brighton the premier Day Spa and Salon in Lancaster County.

Our Staff
Michelle - Esthetician/Owner
I am a graduate of the Lancaster School of Cosmetology. I have been so anxious to begin a new journey with my mother and sisters in this venture we call Bernard's at Brighton! I look forward to meeting you and making you feel like you've been on a mini-getaway. I specialize in custom facials, body waxing and body treatments. You will enjoy a unique line of products that will make you feel completely revitalized. Your experience at Bernard's at Brighton is one you will not soon forget.
Janelle - Esthetician
I am a 2005 graduate of Lancaster School of Cosmetology. I have experience in both
destination spas and wellness centers. I perform customized facials for all skin types, face and body waxing, all body treatments and makeup consultations and applications. I think it is wonderful when I have a new client who has never had a facial before and they leave saying "Wow! I never knew what I was missing!" My main goal is to help rejuvenate the look and feel of one's skin, and at the same time rejuvenating the mind and spirit.
Renae - Massage Therapist
I had my training for Massage at The Baltimore School of Massage Therapy, graduated in March 2005. There is nothing better than the feeling you get when your client tells you how wonderful they feel after a massage. Realizing that for just that one hour, I've helped relax someone, and take their minds off of everything else and am actively improving their health is the reason I enjoy doing what I do. Deep Tissue work is my favorite, but I also perform Swedish (relaxation), Mayo facial Release Technique, Reflexology, and Pre-natal Massage.
Anita - Massage Therapist
I entered the field of massage therapy in 2004 after graduating from the Baltimore School of Massage. I specialize in deep tissue, Swedish massage, joint mobilization to improve movement of joints and limbs (tight muscles, stiff ligaments), as well as face and scalp massage for deep relaxation and stress relief. Theraputic bodywork is an important factor in preventative healthcare,
and I'm happy to be a part of our client's well being in the peaceful
environment of Bernard's at Brighton. I specialize in relaxing Swedish massage, restorative deep tissue massage, firming a luxurious face massage and reflexology.
Cindy - Esthetician
I am a graduate of the Lancaster School of Cosmetology. I am educated in all types of facials, body scrubs, body wraps and make-up applications. My one goal is to give your skin that special glow and silky smoothness that we all love to feel. So come in and relax while I rejuvenate your skin and bring out it's natural beauty.

Spa Expectations
- Your Level of Comfort: The best way to receive a massage or other bodywork is to be unclothed. However, you may disrobe to your comfort level. During all treatments, the only area of the body that is not completely draped is the area being attended. Your privacy will be upheld at all times.
- Personal Preferences: Please communicate your preferences with your provider. Whether it is the room temperature or the level of pressure, let the therapist know immediately that you are uncomfortable. Our goal is for your experience to be positive, and corrections can only be made if we are made aware of a problem at the time of service.
- Satisfaction Statement: If you have suggestions or if we did not meet your every expectation, please call the manager. We will ensure you receive full satisfaction.
Policies
- Spa Etiquette: Bernard’s offers our guests a quiet and tranquil environment to relax, unwind and rejuvenate. We value and respect our guests’ time with us and ask all guests to do the same. To ensure tranquility within our environment, we ask that you speak softly and that all electronic equipment be turned off. We respectfully insist that children under 18 years of age wishing to receive spa services be accompanied by a parent. Children under 13 are not permitted in our spa. Only children with an appointment are permitted in our salon.
- Arrival: We encourage you to arrive 30 minutes prior to the time of your spa service to fill out a health assessment, secure a locker and disrobe as necessary. Relax in our serenity room with a cup of specialty tea. Arriving late will limit the time for your treatment, thus lessening its effectiveness and your pleasure. Your treatment will end on time so our next guest is not delayed. You will be responsible for payment in full.
- Security: We recommend that you do not bring jewelry or valuables to the spa or salon. Bernard’s is not responsible for lost, stolen or damaged items.
- Cancellation Policy: The appointments you reserve are scheduled especially for you. A credit card number must be taken to secure every booking. If you must cancel, change or move your appointment, please do so within 24 hours of your scheduled time. Failure to do so will result in a 50% charge of your services. Spa packages and parties require 72 hours advance notice. A “no show” will result in a 100% charge of your services.
- Payment: Payment is required when services are rendered. Please present all Gift Cards at check-in. We accept Visa, MasterCard, American Express, Discover, personal checks (proper ID required) and cash.
- Gratuities: Gratuities are not included in spa treatments or salon services. They are a matter of personal discretion and they should reflect your level of satisfaction with each service. Envelopes are available at our front desk. A 20% gratuity will be added to all services of parties of 4 or more.
- Your Safety: If you have any type of medical condition, be sure to mention it to us before your treatment begins. Certain treatments may not be advisable for you. If you are pregnant, no body treatments can be received during the first 12 weeks of pregnancy. Also be sure to inform your therapist if you are using Retin-A, Accutane or have had laser surgery.
NOTE: Scheduling an appointment at Bernard’s at Brighton is an acknowledgement of these terms.
Philanthropy
- Relay for Life: Relay For Life is a fun-filled overnight event designed to celebrate survivorship and raise money to help the American Cancer Society save lives, help those who have been touched by cancer and empower individuals to fight back against the disease. Our husband and father was lost to cancer, as well as many of our close friends and family. We dedicate our team to the honor and memory of Bernard. The Relay For Life is also a celebration of those who have fought the battle against cancer. This year’s Relay is June 8 and 9. If you are interested in participating or making a donation, please contact any of our staff. Visit http://www.lancasterrelayforlife.org/index.htm for additional information.
- Locks of Love: Bernard’s Day Spa and Salon is a Locks of Love participant. Locks of Love is a public non-profit organization that provides hairpieces to financially disadvantaged children under age 18 suffering from long-term medical hair loss from any diagnosis. They meet a unique need for children by using donated hair to create the highest quality hair prosthetics. Most of the children helped by Locks of Love have lost their hair due to a medical condition called alopecia areata, which has no known cause or cure. The prostheses we provide help to restore their self-esteem and their confidence, enabling them to face the world and their peers. Anyone wishing to donate hair to Locks of Love will receive a complimentary haircut. Please visit www.locksoflove.org to see how you can help.
